That's a Chica! Shana Bryant & Chica Project's 7th Annual The Power of One Fundraiser
Last Thursday at the swanky Dona Habana Restaurant in Roxbury, Chica Project hosted it’s 7th Annual ‘The Power of One’ fundraising event. A wonderful evening with lots of amazing food, wonderful people and a whole lot of networking, the event made for a light and festive mood; however the reason for convening on this particular evening was anything but light. Founded by Nurys Camargo, Chica Project is a mentoring program for young Latina women and serves, “to close the opportunity divide for Latinas by empowering them with the skills, confidence, and network necessary to thrive personally and professionally.” The annual Power of One fundraising event is one way to ensure the organization accomplishes this goal.
Guests arrived and were treated to plentiful and amazing Cuban appetizers. They sipped on their cocktails, while Chica Project staff walked around with tickets for their 50/50 raffle. Once the actual program commenced, the crowd heard remarks from Interim Executive Director, Erika Rodriguez. She thanked the people, the sponsors and then introduced three dynamic young mentees. Although three different perspectives, each one of these young women echoed sentiments of gratitude and appreciation for the positive impact Chica Project has had on their lives. Last but certainly not least, Boston City Councillor Ayanna Pressley gave the keynote address before Pamela Rosario and Stephanie Merritt were honored as the evening’s honorees.
While the evening continued on, there was one unsung hero in the room! Who was she? Shana Bryant of Shana Bryant Consulting! Shana’s work with Chica Project began last year when she applied to be their event planning fellow, becoming responsible for many of the organization’s event programming. She even organized and executed last year’s group trip to Washington, DC. The collaborations between Shana Bryant and Chica Project were so successful that Shana stayed on as their official event planner. Prior to the start of and throughout The Power of One fundraising event, Shana could be found buzzing around making sure everyone and everything was on schedule, communicating any needs to the venue staff and most importantly ensuring the event was smooth sailing for Chica Project staff.
